Smoother train traffic for the coastal line

In Espoo Rail Line Project, two additional tracks will be constructed between Leppävaara and Kauklahti. New tracks will separate local and long-distance train traffic onto their own tracks, enabling the development of long-distance traffic towards Turku as well as local traffic to Karjaa, Kirkkonummi, and Espoo. Within the project, we are carrying out Area Contract 3, located between Koivuhovi and Espoo Centre.

In this four-year contract, we will build 4.5 kilometers of new double track and repair and construct a total of nine bridges. The contract also includes excavation and foundation reinforcement work, lighting technical work, as well as the construction of pedestrian and cycling paths and noise barriers. We will also carry out improvement works in the Koivuhovi and Tuomarila station areas, as well as street, water supply, and green works related to the contract area.

In connection with the project, pedestrian and cycling connections in the area will also be developed. A safe and accessible route shortens the overall distance, and improving the transport connections around the station area, along with more comprehensive bicycle parking, increases the connection possibilities between rail transport and walking and cycling.

The project, which supports the growth of rail traffic, enables a denser, more regular, and long-distance traffic-independent local train service in the area, and also makes long-distance traffic smoother as a result of the project.

The estimated completion time for the contract is at the end of 2027.
