The renovation of the road tunnel supports an important port connection in Helsinki

In the project, we will renew, among other things, the tunnel’s fire alarm, smoke extraction, ventilation, fire water, and disturbance detection systems, tunnel lighting, as well as the camera and traffic management system. Additionally, we will repair tunnel structures, renovate the drainage and fire water systems running under the tunnel, and build a new transformer building and signage in the tunnel area.

We are responsible for infrastructure and rock construction as well as high-voltage work in the contract. Aventi will carry out the telematics and lighting work.

More than half of the traffic in the Vuosaari road tunnel is port traffic, so the tunnel is of great importance to the port’s operations and transportation. During extensive demolition and construction work, the tunnel must be closed in both directions, so the work will be carried out as efficiently as possible to minimize disruptions. The detour will use the tunnel’s alternative route, which runs through Itäväylä, Kallvikintie, and Niinisaarentie to the Vuosaari harbor.
