First tram line increases the attractiveness of Vantaa
We are involved in the implementation of Vantaa’s first light rail line, which will cover a distance of 19 kilometers from Mellunmäki, Helsinki through Tikkurila to the Finnish Aviation Museum. The tram line is largest investment of Vantaa to date and also a significant urban development project: the aim is to attract 60,000 new residents and 30,000 new jobs along the route by 2050.
We are responsible for the construction of the western section of the Vantaa tram in collaboration with Sitowise and Ramboll. The western section will span nearly ten kilometers between the Aviation Museum and Tikkurila, and it includes one of the most challenging structures of the entire project: the underground station in Tikkurila, which is located in a tunnel beneath the Tikkurila station.
The Vantaa tram is a comprehensive urban development project, where we will also renew street structures, traffic lanes, as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths. At the same time, there will be a major upgrade of the underground water supply and other pipe and cable lines.
The Vantaa tram will enhance smooth and ecological modes of transportation in the area, particularly in terms of cross-traffic. The tram will also increase the city’s attractiveness, promote the construction of new housing and services along the tram line, and strengthen the overall well-being of the area with the creation of new jobs.
The construction of the Vantaa tram will take four years, and according to plans, the tram will be ready for operation by the end of 2029.
